Still rocking a Garmin Fenix5+ from 2018
According to the internut, I should've replaced it at least three firmware updates ago.
The battery has "degraded" to about two weeks per charge, which Garmin users apparently consider catastrophic. Meanwhile, people with smartwatches are looking for their charger before lunch.
I keep thinking about upgrading to a Fenix 8, but every time I see the $1,100 price tag, my Fenix 5+ suddenly seems to acquire another year of useful life.
To be fair, the technology leap over the last eight years has been impressive. Better sensors, brighter displays, improved GPS, flashlights… probably a feature that tells you you're overthinking buying a new watch.
Realistically, I'll probably keep wearing this indestructible brick until it either stops getting GPS lock or eBay convinces me that a used Fenix 7 is the financially responsible choice.
Nothing says "aging gracefully" quite like spending hours researching how to avoid spending money.
